06/29/2004: "Ashcroft's Crusade Against Obscenity"

According to several stories (story, story) and this speech, Attorney General John Ashcroft says that "The Department of Justice is committed unequivocally to the task of prosecuting obscenity." This is the best thing I've ever heard... and I have a good suggestion about where it should start: Donald Rumsfeld.

The creation, publishing, and distribution of pictures of prisoners from Abu Ghraib being abused, sexually molested, and tortured conforms with just about any sensible person's defintion of obscene. It won't be long until Rumsfeld's actions are fully exposed, and he's publically acknowledged as being responsible for approving/encouraging/allowing this behavior. Any efforts that the Department of Justice takes to investigate and prosecute these obscenities would benefit Truth, the American People, the People of Iraq, and the World.

And yes, the slime that produce the equally disgusting and degrading filth like bestiality and kiddie porn should rot in prison right next to Rumsfeld, Charles Graner, Sabrina Harmon, Janice Karpinski, and the rest.

Let the Eagle Soar.

I am tired of hearing that they were instructed to take these pics and were "only doing their job" sounds like a clip from a certain movie I've seen.... (you cant handle the truth!!!) I have never been in a war, cannot know what the soldiers are going through, but would like to think I'm enough of a human being to risk my job by saying no to an order like this.

I am not surprised to see these pictures everywhere, considering what we see day to day. Ashcroft (or whoever) thought it was too obscene to see Nick Burgh decapitated. I would not want to, if given the option. That would further add to his family's pain and, maybe, desensitize me and others to what he went through by making it a form of morose entertainment. The news stations, however, broadcast the news about his death, and basically told the american people where to look if they wanted to watch it. I think that is plain sick. The only reason they are showing the soldiers humiliating Iraqi prisoners is to seem that they are not hiding anything, even though they either ordered it or permitted it. The government does not believe that we deserve the truth, because it is of no benefit to them and their reason for going to war. I think that the pictures and their reactions to Sept. 11th are to make the american people afraid. How many prisoners have they forced a false confession or name out of by torture? Even though most decent people would be disgusted at the tactics, those believing that these prisoners must be in there for a reason see nothing wrong with it. Bush, airline security, the defense dept., have all told us not to be afraid or angry at people of middle eastern descent, but to look out for them and report if they do anything suspicious. Suspicious behaviour is included but not limited to: making a lot of phone calls, boarding an airplane, talking to a friend while on an airplane, in a car, on a bus, in the supermarket, going to any major city that could be at risk for terrorism, sending a letter, going to school, eating at burger king, playing golf, etc...I am not naive enough to believe that noone is a danger, but not cynical enough to believe everyone is a danger. I guess the point of this response, since I have gotten off subject, is that the people who are " allowing" us to see these things are thinking of everything but what is decent and right.

And the congregation said "Amen."

I don't think I could have said it better myself.
