05/10/2005: "The End is Near"

If one were to gauge the state of the world based on the state of what's coming out as entertainment, one would have to acknowledge that the end is near. Apparently, there are no new ideas, and it's imperative to recycle and rehash TV shows from the 80s. At the moment I'm ranting about the Dukes of Hazzard movie, which is about as barrel-scraping low as possible.

What's next, I wonder... a movie based on Facts of Life or Different Strokes? Knight Rider with Vin Diesel? The A-Team? A Mr. Belvedere movie? Wouldn't society collapse if a Webster movie came out?

Please, please... can we stop with this nonsense now... before there's a Family Ties or Growing Pains movie? Please, put the remake/recycle script down.

The end is closer than you think. There have already been 2 made for TV Knight Rider movies (one was a pilot for a "next generation" show that didn't happen)

And of course, there's been talk of an A Team movie for years. Looks like it's on it's way http://movies.about.com/od/moviesinproduction/a/ateam101204.htm

(now humming REM's "End of the World as We Know It"wink

Dan,

Now normally we see eye to eye on things, but here, your lack of life experience is really peeking through. Your age is denying you the guilty pleasure of watching the beautiful television of the 80's brought back to life.

David Hasselhoff, John Schneider and Tom Wopatt, Mr. T, and need you forget Richard Dean Anderson of MacGyver fame or Jan Michael Vincent of Airwolf or even the quickly cancelled but oft underrated anonymous cast of Manimal featuring a man who could change from human to animal who survived being thrown from an airplane by morphing into a hawk. That list is a who's who of my adolescent television friends. Callous you are!

Oh Dan, one day you will see the world from my perch; and what a world you will discover. What a world waiting to be seen through the eyes of the truth.

Does anyone else find the title of this post a touch alarming? Where is Danny Boy! Gone are the fireside chats and wonderful podcasts. Big D you are truly missed, I hope the end is not actually near.
Sides doesn't everyone love them some Dukes of Hazzard?
