The End is Near

If one were to gauge the state of the world based on the state of what's coming out as entertainment, one would have to acknowledge that the end is near. Apparently, there are no new ideas, and it's imperative to recycle and rehash TV shows from the 80s. At the moment I'm ranting about the Dukes of Hazzard movie, which is about as barrel-scraping low as possible.

What's next, I wonder... a movie based on Facts of Life or Different Strokes? Knight Rider with Vin Diesel? The A-Team? A Mr. Belvedere moive?

Please, please... can we stop with this nonsense now... before there's a Family Ties or Growing Pains movie? Please, put down the script for the remake

Where Did the TrippOdd Podcast Go?

I've been very busy the past few weeks, and haven't really been able to focus on doing podcasting. This past Friday I had an extremely negative experience with another individual, and I don't believe that I'll be podcasting again very soon.

While I'm about to give up on the idea of God being a champion of Justice, I'd still appreciate any good thoughts/beams/prayers you could send my way. It looks like there are tough legal times ahead as I persue obtaining Justice through appropriate legal avenues. Sorry about not podcasting, but it's really hard to do something in the name of fun and community when I'm dealing with the aftermath of a violent crime.

True Path to Happiness

The True Path to Happiness is quite simple, and only requires about $60.

1. Click this link.
2. Buy every album for sale there.
3. Wait forever and a day for the CDs to arrive in shattered CD cases, with no prior indication that they've been shipped/sent.
4. When they finally arrive, listen repeatedly.

Even though the service basically sucked and I received five broken CD cases, buying Dressy Bessy music was completely worth the effort, and makes me feel good. Dressy Bessy is almost on par with Maceo on the feelin'-good scale, though they're not a bit like Maceo musically.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I saw Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy this weekend and while I liked it a lot, I can fully understand why others wouldn't. The movie is very loosely based on the books and parts of it are disturbing if you're the type of person who thinks the book version should be Gospel. It's not worth going into spoilerville just to explain a couple of these, but if you see it (and you've read the books) you'll see my point.

Someone told me that their friend was disappointed with it because there are setups for things explained in the book that are never explained in the movie. This is true, and a bit perplexing since the movie doesn't closely follow the book(s) at all. If you're going to make a movie based on a book, and are going to take all kinds of liberties... well, don't require someone to have read the book to "get it." This was the MAJOR problem with the fairly recent adaptation of a Vonnegut novel that starred Nick Nolte and Bruce Willis and was so horrible that I refuse to mention it by name.

Aside from this though, the movie was highly entertaining. I think Mos Def as Ford Prefect was a surprising and brilliant choice, and how could you possibly go wrong with Alan Rickman as the voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android?
